Associate Director Finance Japan

The Associate Director, Finance Japan will be responsible for various aspects of FP&A and Accounting support for the Japanese subsidiary. This position will be based in Tokyo and will report into the Director of Finance & Administration, Japan.

A typical day might look like:

  • Partnering with the Japan commercial team in the preparation and review of annual budgets, forecasts, and long-range plans

  • Preparing and distributing monthly management reporting package, highlighting underlying business performance and explaining variances vs. plan/forecast

  • Leading the headcount tracking and approval process

  • Leading various ad-hoc analyses throughout the year, using data to explain trends and proactively identify risks and opportunities

  • Participate in Joint Finance Committee meetings, as requested, and monitor compliance with existing agreements

  • Identifing opportunities based on market trends, develop and review business cases, and seek internal endorsement where appropriate

  • Liaising with the Company’s corporate accounting department to ensure that all group requirements are met

  • Liaising with external auditors to ensure smooth audit processes and timely responsiveness to auditor requests

  • Liaising with external service provider to support preparation of annual statutory financial statements

  • Supporting local SOX controls testing and internal audits

This role might be for you if you have:

  • 8+ years of experience, preferably in a pharmaceutical/biotech environment

  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast paced international environment – flexibility, team-oriented, collaborative, and a positive attitude

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Extensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, financial reporting and analysis, and compliance

  • Experience with SOX and developing, improving, and maintaining systems of internal control

  • Japanese/English fluency is vital

  • Knowledge of ERP systems is required (Oracle/SAP)

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business or quantitative field; MBA a plus
