About The Role:

The Finance Director, Japan, will act as a true strategic partner to the Managing Director and Market Leadership Team in accelerating Dyson’s growth.

This role is pivotal to our success and will report directly into our Regional Finance Director. You will play a key role in driving the financial performance of the market, leading the development of local finance teams and acting as a key member of regional Finance Leadership team.

Responsibilities & Expectations

  • Lead the market commercial Finance strategy and be a strategic partner to business
  • Jointly own and be responsible for successful management of the P&L, B/S and Working capital with local MD
  • Build strong partnerships with the Market Leadership Team
  • Provide strategic leadership for the evaluation, development, implementation, and assessment of market business strategy
  • Lead the market strategy, asset allocation and evaluation of all business-critical investments
  • Drive plans to maximize category value and deliver on our direct and controlled retail strategy with improved margin and profitability
  • Manage Media, Retail and BBI (Brand Building Investment) financial planning and reporting (including trade terms and promotions) to drive improved financial returns and increased efficiency
  • Drive financial accountability across commercial teams in terms of budget ownership and forecast accuracy
  • Challenge current ways of working, driving efficiencies and cost savings wherever possible and to set best practice in the region
  • Ensure effective procurement and purchasing procedures are in place and followed, identifying savings and leveraging global agreements
  • Provide regular reporting to regional leadership team to ensure business expansion and opportunities are being fully utilized
  • Working closely with regional/ market stakeholders to develop and review the annual budget and forecast (LE) and monitoring and performance throughout the fiscal year
  • Champion competitor awareness and action planning to ensure pricing strategy remains competitive
  • Ensure organization structure is in place and successfully working in line with Company enterprise operating model
  • Champion governance and compliance
  • Oversee accounting, budgeting, financial reporting for the market

  • Ensure compliance to local GAAP and internal controls
  • Represent company externally towards local authorities, banks if needed
  • Ensure timely and efficient preparation of annual audited financial statements, returns and relevant statutory filings
  • Work collaboratively with global functions and region to ensure governance and compliance is in place as well as SLAs

About You:

  • Strong career progress to date in Accounting, Business or Finance in a multinational organization, ideally with FMCG grounding
  • Previous responsibility of P&L delivery and sales with a strong grasp of the retail landscape (including trade terms and promotions)
  • An effective and credible thought partner - commercially minded with a good grasp of key financial drivers and strong contract management skills
  • Professional accounting qualification is a plus, but not mandatory.
  • Previous experience to represent company externally
  • Ability to navigate financial and non-financial data gathering and analytics
  • Critical leadership competencies
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication and leadership skills, with the ability to communicate and manage staff at all levels
  • A bias for action, able to work under pressure with high levels of resilience and drive, able to see the strategic big picture but also to roll up sleeves and get into the detail and delivery of financial projects
  • Strong team player and sound management skills
