About the role
Our Global Trade function, composed of 12 people, focuses on compliance and operational excellence in collaboration with Legal, Procurement, Supply Chain and HSE.
As a Global Trade and Export Control manager, you will work on customs compliance , operational excellence and training/advice to support the GBUs. You will get the opportunity to contribute to Solvay strategy and have a positive impact on export control and sanctions compliance, trade lane´s performance and cash.
You will be accountable for:
To secure import and export processes anchored with excellence in operations and a culture of compliance that supports strategic goals within the global customs and export control & sanctions (ECS) organization and aligned with Solvay vision, strategies and directives.
To develop and secure strategic partnerships internally and externally within assigned regions that drive change, secure compliance and support operational excellence to achieve Solvay vision, strategies and directive and that support the business goals.
To be the trusted resource within the assigned region making Customs and Trade compliance accessible to all internal and external stakeholders.
Proactively share information with key stakeholders and provide reliable and timely responses that support the Customs and ECS operations and the Solvay vision, strategies and directives.
Overall responsibility of customs and export control & sanctions compliance activities within the countries of the assigned region
Support and manage day-to-day export control and customs operations, including regulatory analysis, oversight of manual compliance checks and documentation of material release decisions
To secure operational excellence and compliance to customs rules and regulations within the countries of their assigned region. This includes having processes that actively monitor for, take action upon deviations and the pursuit of activities that identify and correct systemic or operational conditions the deviations are a consequence of.
Create and maintain the internal framework for import and export operations at the global, regional and local levels. Benchmark customs and compliance processes with other Solvay regional customs organizations to secure best practices and standardization
Provide assessment and guidance regarding the implementation of sanctions, embargoes and licensing requirements, in support of operational business activities. Manage licenses by assisting in the oversight of the maintenance for GTS system license architecture, supporting license governance strategy, implementing new license conditions
Maintain, administer, and assist in the development of company-wide Trade and export control business processes
Actively identify and manage risk related to Customs and export control & sanctions operations and compliance
Train and educate co-workers, colleagues and key stakeholders on Global Trade regulations for countries within the assigned region. Continually review current ways of working in order to develop and maintain optimal setup and processes for import and export operations and compliance within the region and assigned countries to the region.
Provide leadership by driving the business planning process for import, export and compliance initiates and. Secure follow through on initiatives.
Maintain regular contact with service providers (customs brokers, external consultants, freight forwarders)

About you
Bachelor or master’s degree in economics, law, international trade, supply chain or similar, post-master in Customs Law or similar is a real asset
+6 years experience in Global Trade and customs operations
Competencies:
Excellent communicator (written and orally)
Strong analytical skills
Ability to work autonomously
Behaviors:
Experience in coordination of transversal global trade projects
Hands-on
Experience in Supply chain and/or Export/Import
Experience in developing and delivery of training
Experience in project management is desirable
Fluency in English is required
About the pay and benefits
Attractive and equitable pay for all: compensation is determined within a range to foster your development in the role. While the Japan base pay reasonably expected for this role is 9,260,160 to 12,837,100, your salary may ultimately be higher or lower based on your skills and experience. Additionally, we provide a competitive total rewards package that includes a bonus and/or other incentives.
