Position SummaryThe legal assistant will work in a fast-paced environment under the supervision of attorneys in providing legal services to clients. Their responsibilities vary depending upon the section and practice group to which they are assigned. They may also work with other personnel at the Firm in delivering legal services to clients. Legal assistants will be requested to perform other duties as required. Necessary are strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and on a team in a fast-paced environment under strict deadlines, effectively manage multiple responsibilities, keep accurate and timely time records, and meet budget and deadline demands.
Duties and Accountabilities1
  • Drafting and proofreading legal documents, pleadings, motions, briefs, and correspondence.
  • Organizing, scanning, and indexing legal documents.
  • Submit legal documents to court or public institutions.
  • Review new matters received daily and prepare short summaries for each matter.
  • Develop expert-level knowledge of matter flow.
  • Track matter flow and maintain up-to-date case files.
  • Create/maintain databases, charts, graphs, tables, etc. for data analysis.
  • Prepare daily time entries for services performed.
  • Assisting with legal research as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required (law degree, or related).
  • Related work experience within a law firm or professional services is required.
  • Strong analytical and documentation skills on corporate or financial legal matters backed by a solid understanding of basic legal theories.
  • Native level Japanese and business level English for both written and spoken.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, exhibit strong self-drive and initiatives, curious to learn new things, solution driven, as well as a team player.
  • Proficient in MS applications.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work under time pressure.
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime and long hours when needed.
  • Administrative Scrivener or Judicial Scrivener qualification a plus.

Location & Reporting

  • This role is based in our Tokyo office.
  • This role reports to Partners in various practice group.
