The Role

The (Senior) Manager, Project Management (PM) will work in partnership with Japan Development Team Lead (JDTL), Global Development Program Manager (DPM) and the Global Compound Development Team Lead (CDTL) to manage Japan product development projects and support the key objectives of the Global Portfolio & Project Management (PPM) organization and Japan Development. As a member of the Global Compound Development Team (CDT), the PM provides cross-functional operational and program management support for Japan development of therapeutic products.

This position will work closely with various members / stakeholders, especially the Japan Compound Team (JCoT) and CDT. The PM will report to PM group lead and will actively contribute to build project management capabilities.

Responsibilities

The PM works in partnership with the JDTL, DPM and CDTL, other CDT/JCoT members, as well as Japan R&D members to achieve the following results:

  • Establish and manage Japan project plan in Global project plan and objectives in alignment with the Japan Development organizational objectives

  • Drive the project team to execute the project plan to meet/exceed the operational goals

  • Provides project management skills to the Japan Development for the following activities (but not limited to):

Project work:

  • Manage project information, documentation and team communications to ensure timely and accurate communication of project strategy and operational status for review at relevant governance body(ies) and other stakeholders

  • Manage issues/risks effectively, working with the JCoT , and PM partner to help resolve problems, turn adversity into opportunities for growth, and establish contingency plans for anticipated risks

  • Assist in management of meetings internally and with collaborative partners.

Functional work:

  • Support PM group lead of Project Leadership and Management for tracking each global project and portfolio status especially for early projects, in collaboration with Japan R&D members

  • Assist with management of project governance to ensure smooth execution, clear communication and understanding of project strategy to management

  • Lead and manage cross functional alignment/improvement activities as needed

  • Work with integrated teams to plan, execute, control, report and close-out all program related work across all functions (e.g., integrated program budget, risk, timeline, resource, and stakeholder management).

  • Actively manage stakeholders both within and around the CDT / JCoTand Japan R&D.

  • Demonstrate ability to resolve conflict and influence teams beyond individuals who are direct reports.

  • Actively contribute to the success of the Global PPM department goals & objectives and Japan Development goals aligned with company goals. Help build program management capabilities in collaboration with Global PPM leadership and work closely with Global Project Management Office (PMO) to develop tools and templates.

  • Work with Alliance Management for partnered products as needed.

Requirements

Education:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required

  • Post-graduate degree in life sciences, engineering, or business management preferred.

  • Professional project management certification and/or diploma preferred.

  • English level: business level communication

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical Development of with at least 2 years in cross-functional program management in early and late stage drug development is required.

  • Experience as project manager in Oncology drug development is strongly preferred.

  • Experience in management of multiple trials concurrently and/or large Phase 3 program and functional/external interactions, is preferred

  • Demonstrate advanced capability with Microsoft Project (and/or some enterprise-wide planning software such as Planisware) and visualization software is preferred.

  • Demonstrate ability to resolve conflict and influence teams without formal authority is required.

  • Successful leadership and management of a cross functional team in a matrix, global, or virtual setting, is preferred

  • Experience or interest in portfolio management is preferred.

  • Flexibility to adjust and thrive in ever-changing work environment is required.

  • Valid working visa or permanent residency in Japan

  • Native level Japanese in verbal, reading, & writing
