Description:
Since 1961, NERA (https://www.nera.com) has provided unparalleled guidance on the most important market, legal, and regulatory questions of the day. Our work has shaped industries and policy around the world. Our field-leading experts and deep experience allow us to provide rigorous analysis, reliable expert testimony, and data-powered policy recommendations for the world’s leading law firms and corporations as well as regulators and governments. Our experience, integrity, and economic ingenuity mean you can depend on us in the face of your biggest economic and financial challenges.
We have an immediate opening for a full-time Senior Analyst to primarily support our Antitrust and Competition team based in Tokyo.
The work of NERA’s Antitrust and Competition business consists of theoretical and empirical economic analysis to assist law firms and their clients in the context of the investigation by competition authorities of alleged competition law infringements, possible damage claims arising from the infringement, and the regulatory review of mergers and acquisitions. As a member of a young and international team, you will support us on high-profile cases in Japan but also together with our colleagues around the world, on a global level. In a collaborative and rewarding environment, you will for example determine the extent to which the economic evidence is consistent with an infringement allegation, quantify the damage caused by a cartel, and advise the merging parties throughout the merger review process.
You will also have the opportunity to work across our other practices including Intellectual Property, Security and Finance, Survey Research, and Energy, Environment, Communications and Infrastructure.
You will:
- Focus on data analysis, spanning from simple descriptive analysis to more complex econometric analysis
- Conduct conceptual analysis applying the theoretical literature to the facts of a case
- Conduct literature (including previous competition cases and theoretical literature) and data research
- Collaborate with your project team/s as well as being responsible for your own piece of analysis
- Interpret the results of your analysis and present your findings to the rest of the team and our clients
- Actively participate in drafting reports, memoranda, presentations and other work products
You will need
- To hold either a Masters (or a Ph.D) in economics or a related field ideally with a focus on econometrics and quantitative analysis training.
- To have strong attention to detail and be able to think analytically and critically
- Fluent communication skills in Japanese and English, both written and spoken.
- To be able to work effectively both individually and in teams
- Relevant industry or consulting experience would be beneficial
What we offer

- Competitive salary and extensive benefits package including pension and health insurance
- Support to develop through high-quality training
