Business Overview

Marketplace Business is responsible for operating Rakuten Ichiba, the founding business of Rakuten.

Rakuten was established in 1997, and Rakuten Ichiba, which has continued to grow to this day, embodies Rakuten's mission of "empowering people and society through innovation." It has created a system that allows individuals skilled in business to easily open their own stores, transcending the limitations of traditional commercial areas, and has brought the joy of shopping to users across Japan.

Today, it has grown into one of the largest e-commerce sites in Japan, with over 50,000 stores (as of November 2024) and more than 100 million user accounts, serving a vast number of users.

Department Overview

The Market Advertising Department is responsible for planning, promoting, operating, and managing advertising services used by stores operating on Rakuten Ichiba and manufacturer brands selling products on Rakuten Ichiba.

Our mission is to provide effective and user-friendly advertising products as marketing tools that contribute to increased sales on Rakuten Ichiba. One of the strengths of Rakuten's advertising lies in its proprietary delivery platform and measurement system, which allow for comprehensive tracking of ad impressions, clicks, and conversions. Furthermore, these data are utilized to optimize ad delivery.

As a result, advertising is transformed from being merely a cost into an investment with growth potential. It also enables the creation of sales plans based on advertising effectiveness, elevating the role of advertising to a strategic level.

We place great importance on collaboration and cooperation with the sales organization, working to create an environment that enables the sales and promotion departments to efficiently and consistently achieve their goals. Additionally, by establishing a stable environment for the consistent delivery of advertisements, we aim to contribute to the sales growth of our clients and empower them.

Position Details

- Management and oversight of P&L and balance sheet

- Formulation and management of annual budgets

- Execution of key meetings (shareholders' meetings and board meetings) and preparation of related materials

- Negotiation and conclusion of contracts with major shareholders

- Negotiation and conclusion of contracts with partner companies

- Establishment and supervision of governance structures

- Formulation and management of operational processes

- Various administrative procedures

- Organization and management of various meetings

Work Environment

30 members

New graduates and mid-career hires (including those with no prior experience in the advertising industry) are also thriving.

Mandatory Qualifications:

- At least 3 years of professional work experience

- Strong problem-solving skills with a sense of urgency

- Fluent Japanese (N1 level or higher required)

Desired Qualifications:

- Excel Macro/SQL skills

- Analytical skills

- Experience in advertising sales or working at an advertising agency

- Management experience (small teams acceptable)

- Management and oversight of P&L and balance sheet

- Formulation and management of annual budgets

- Negotiation and coordination with stakeholders

- Business-level English skills
