Main Tasks
Agronomy
Contribution to the development of digital tools by developing the technical foundation for the new functionalities for digital tools
Design and develop agronomic models for new functionalities for digital tools based on locally available trial results; proactive collaboration with with global Digital Farming team to adapt agronomic models to local needs, practices and environmental reality
Drive the enhancement of digital tools by developing the technical foundation for the improvement of existing functionalities for digital tools
Enhance agronomic models for existing functionalities for digital tools based on locally available trial results; proactive collaboration with with global Digital Farming team to enhance agronomic models to local needs, practices and environmental reality
Development and design of experimental field trial protocols for agronomic model improvement, functional enhancement and validation in collaboration with xarvio Product Managers; design of field trial protocols to evaluate the effectiveness of digital agriculture solutions in improving crop yields, resource efficiency, and sustainability as well in combination with other portfolio parts (crop protection, seeds & traits) in cross-functional collaboration
Collaborate with global Digital Farming team to translate field trial findings into product improvements and implementation of new functionalities
Provide agronomic expertise and support the communication of findings and insights to internal and external stakeholders to support the adoption of digital agricultural practice
Conduct research and analysis to understand the agronomic needs and challenges of farmers
Contribution to new digital business model development by providing deep expertise in agronomy and farming; contribution to foster better agronomic value proposition of digital tools
Trial Management
Identification of suitable field trial locations and establish partnerships with farmers, JAs and research institutions to facilitate trial implementation
Coordination of all aspects of field trial logistics incl. site selection and trial plot layout from planting to harvesting
Responsible for the collection, validation & analysis as well as summary of trial data
Oversee the execution of field trial activities, ensuring adherence to established trial protocols, timelines and cost budget
Manage field trial personnel (especially contractors) to ensure efficient trial execution and data collection; collaborate with Development team for the trial execution in the BASF research center(s) as well as the data collection
Monitor and assess crop performance and agronomic variables throughout the growing season; provide regular updates about trial implementation status and implement corrective measures in case of deviations
Implementation of quality control procedures to ensure the integrity and reliability of field trial data
Analyze field trial data using statistical techniques and software tools to generate required, actionable insights
Preparation of reports and presentations summarizing field trial results, conclusions and recommendations for internal stakeholders and external partners
Minimum Education and Qualification Required for the Position
Education: University degree in Agronomy, Agriculture or Crop Science
Language: Professional level in both Japanese and English
Working Experience: More than 5 years work experience in agronomy and trial management preferably in a digital agriculture context
Technical & Professional Knowledge: Expertise in farming practices especially of rice cropping system in Japan; Strong understanding of agronomic principles, trial protocol design, statistical analysis and data management; Strong understanding of digital solutions in agriculture; Proficiency in data analysis and statistical modelling techniques; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to work in a complex, interdisciplinary environment with passion for innovation and establishing new solutions
